1950's Day

A yearly favorite of ours is the elementary school 1950's Day.  Our little school is located inside our white picket-fenced neighborhood.  Outsiders tend to get a weird vibe when they come into our little hood and wonder if we have actually been plucked right out of a Better Homes Magazine ad straight from 1950.  Believe me…often times it feels as though we are straight out of a scene from Desperate Housewives circa 2005!

When I dropped the girls off for school on 50's day, it was such a joy to see the entire student body dressed up!  It actually felt like what it must have been like back then.  All the boys, with their slicked back hair, white tee and rolled blue jeans.  All the girls, with their high pony tails, poodle skirts and scarves.

That evening was the school Sock Hop!  All the kids danced, sang songs and slurped on root beer floats.  Just another "don't blink-or it's gone" moment, of their innocent elementary school days.  Sigh.

My mom made these poodle skirts for the girls.  They turned out great!
